207 Squadron reported that Lancaster aircraft ME683 with a crew of 7 failed to return from an operational attack on Wesseling, Germany. It left base at 2320 hrs on the 21st June, 1944. After with no further new was received.
The bomber was claimed to be shot down by Major Heinz Wolfgang Schnaufer NJG/4. According to his record he shot down 3 more Allied aircrafts that day, with a total of 121 during his career.
