Vint lost his bayonet on September 20th, 1942. "I was with "A" Company while we were earrying out exercise "TEAL" which was an attack on FARNAM, SURREY. We moved from our Harbour Area on Frensham Commons about 0700 hrs in the morning. I remember having my bayonet at the time. I first noticed it was missing when someone called my attention to the fact when we were on the outskirts of the town just crossing a R.R. Bridge."
However, Lt.-Col. H. Cook judged Vint was not to blame.
