Pte C.M. Cuthbertson D/126811 (involved truck driver)
On the 27th Sep 44 about 2130 hrs we were proceeding from Ertvelde to Oost-Eecloo. When rounding a bend in the road we came upon a Jeep travelling at an excessive rate of speed. I pulled to the side of the road and attempted to stop, this I almost did before being struck by the Jeep. The road was wet and rough, visibility fair. The Jeep had no lights on. I myself had my lights on. I helped carry the men to a house where there was a light and after their injuries were dressed drove them to 15 Cdn Fd Amb.

On the 27th Sep 44 about 2130 hrs we were proceeding from Ertvelde to Oost-Eecloo. When rounding a bend in the road we came upon a Jeep, the driver who is known to me now as Elliot was travelling at an excessive rate of speed. The driver of the truck in which I was in pulled to the side of the road in an attempt to stop, this he almost did. We were in this position when struck. The road was wet and rough, visibility fair. The Jeep had no lights. We ourselves had our lights on. I recognise the man lying here as the driver of the Jeep. He was in the driver's seat and the co-driver was wedged into his seat. The driver of the truck in which I was riding and myself removed the driver first as he was practically out as it was, we then removed the co-driver. We took them to a home where was a light and attended their injuries. I stopped te bleeding on the co-driver first and then dressed and splinted the injuries of the driver. We then took them to 15 Cdn Fd Amb.
