Died of wounds received in action from the day before.

Had 3 brothers in the army. L/Cpl Joseph W. (West Nova Scotia Highlanders), Sgt Frederick A. (10 Canadian Infantry Brigade) and Herbert Malcolm F/16767 (North Nova Scotia Highlanders). Herbert was killed in action on March 25, 1945 in Germany. Herbert is re-buried in Groesbeek War Cemetery, Netherlands Plot 19, Row A, Grave 1.
