During an attack at 0300 hrs, October 9, 1944, Rifleman Gunter was wounded in the leg, he and the other two men were in slit trenches bandaging themselves. They were pinned down by enemy fire. Rifleman Gunter had been slightly wounded in the leg and was able to bandage himself. An enemy mortar bomb landed and exploded in the slit trench occupied by Rifleman Gunter and he was never seen again. December 18, 1944, Rifleman W.H.O. Neitzel L/28174.
