Wellington III BJ987 PP-L was on a mission to Dusseldorf, Germany. On it's return flight the bomber was shot down by German night fighter Hauptmann Dr. Horst Patuschka. German costal troops reported in the region of Nieuwpoort, Belgium that the air craft was lost in the North Sea. The entire crew was lost. Pilot BERTRAM (R.C.A.F.), Navigator EGGLETON (R.C.A.F.) buried in Oostduinkerke communal cemetery, Belgium Row G, Grave 175. Air Gunner AGAR (R.A.F.V.R.) buried in Oostduinkerke communal cemetery, Belgium Row G, Grave 171. They washed ashore. Observer GALLAGHER (R.C.A.F.) and Air Gunner GEORGE (R.C.A.F.) were lost at sea and remembered at Runnymede Memorial panel 104. 

Patuschka himself was killed on March 6, 1943 after the Junkers crashed near Bizerte, Tunisia due to engine failure.
