Assigned to the 1st Canadian Army Defence Company on April 11, 1944.
To be the first with the unit to disembark in France (July 26, 1944.)
The unit was attached to the Regina Rifle Regiment.
Killed in action at the Leopold canal. As they ferried across the canal and made to the other side a machine gun opened fire and shot through the (probably canvas) boat. Lt. Barclay was positioned in front of the boat and killed.
